My New Podcast

I’m excited to share that I’ve launched a new podcast called 50 Lessons. This podcast is an extension of my book 50 Lessons on Capoeira, Teaching, and Life, where I explore the lessons I’ve learned along my journey in capoeira, teaching, and leadership.

Podcasting (and radio in general) has always held a special place in my life and in my heart. I became an active podcast listener back in 2006, when I received my first iPod as a prize in The Best of The Blogs contest. A couple of years later, in 2008, I decided to try recording my own podcast. That’s how PODнебесная was born, a project that later evolved into Laowaicast — which went on to become one of the most popular and longest-running podcasts about China and the Chinese language.

With 50 Lessons, I’m returning to this familiar format, but from a different place in life.

In the first season, I’m working through the lessons from my book. Over time, the podcast will move beyond it—into personal reflections, stories from the roda, and conversations with teachers and practitioners. Capoeira is the starting point, but the themes are broader: long-term practice, teaching, leadership, and community.

If this resonates with you, you can find 50 Lessons on these platforms:

I’m glad to be back behind the microphone—and I hope you’ll enjoy listening as much as I enjoy recording these episodes.
